In the afternoon of January 27, 2025, partners Fernando Tabet and Nicolle Pinilla participated, at the headquarters of B3, in São Paulo, in the launch event of the Sustainability Policy for the port, waterway, air and airport sectors, approved by the Ministry of Ports and Airports through Ordinance No. 58, dated January 24, 2025. The initiative is an important milestone for the modernization and sustainable development of these sectors, bringing guidelines, objectives, pillars and instruments aimed at good environmental, social and governance practices.
Several actions were incorporated into the environment and climate change pillar of this Policy, including strengthening management to speed up environmental licensing processes and promoting sectoral decarbonization. Among the instruments foreseen is the carrying out of environmental certifications to recognize compliance with applicable norms and standards.
For the 2025-2026 biennium, the Executive Secretariat of the Ministry of Ports and Airports must still establish, within 60 days of the publication of the Ordinance, the agenda of actions and goals to be met.
In the private sphere, the implementation of this Policy will be formalized through the voluntary adherence of companies in the sectors involved to the Pact for Sustainability, a commitment that will enable them to obtain the Sustainability Seal to be granted in different categories by the Ministry of Ports and Airports. The Seal can be used on products, services, documents and other applications that allow the company's commitment to sustainability to be disclosed.
In the morning of November 27, 2024, the partner Fernando Tabet has tought a class on the legal aspects of "PFAS in the Management of Contaminated Sites", in the first edition of the online course offered jointly by the National Service of Commercial Learning (SENAC) and the Brazilian Association of Environmental Consulting and Engineering Companies (AESAS), under the organization of the company SOLDÍ AMBIENTAL. The purpose of the course is to instruct the professionals that practice the management of contaminated sites about the peculiarities, risks and challenges associated with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in this field.
On October 11, 2024, the city of Houston, USA, hosted the Annual Meeting of the Inter-American Network of Specialists in Environmental Legislation - RIELA, which congregates independent law firms with practice in the environmental field in all Americas. On the previous day, the seminar on "Energy Transition in the Americas: An Environmental Law Perspective" took place in the same location under the organization of the US law firm BAKER BOTTS LLP, which counted on speakers from several other also RIELA-member firms, distributed among the following thematic panels: I - The Evolution of ESG and Carbon Markets; II - Climate Litigation; III - Renewable Sources; and IV - Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and EV Batteries. In addition to the panels, other invited speakers performed presentations about "The Net-Zero Movement Drivers" (Professor Jim Blackburn, from Rice University), "Approaches to and Challenges of Energy Transition and Carbon Reduction Initiatives: Industry Perspective" (Claude Griffin, Executive Director of the US Business Council for Sustainable Development), and "Tax Incentives for Energy Transition Projects in the US" (Barbara de Marigny, partner of Baker Botts LLP). TABET ADVOGADOS is the exclusive member of RIELA in Brazil and was represented in such events by its partner Fernando Tabet, who also acted as a speaker in the seminar.
In the afternoon of August 22, 2024 the partner Fernando Tabet has participated as a speaker in the panel on "Reforestation, Regeneration and Carbon Credits: challenges and controversies", side by side with representatives from AGÊNCIA ENVOLVERDE, MORFO, the Secretariat of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics of the State of São Paulo - SEMIL and ARBOLINK, at the 3rd Forum on Bioeconomy and Sustainability of the France-Brazil Chamber of Commerce - CCIFB, which was organized in partnership with the NGO DIA DA TERRA BRASIL, at the library auditorium of Villa-Lobos Park, in São Paulo. The programe of the event included panels on "Trademarks and Climate Emergencies", "Bioeconomy and Technology", "Human Rights and Bioeconomy", "Food Safety" and "Sustainable Finance". Among the other moderators and speakers were representatives from several other organizations, such as the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development - CEBDS, UTOPIES BRASIL, BUSNELLOS'S SOLLUTIONS, HELEXIA, VEOLIA, MERCADO LIVRE, CAPGEMINI, CNP SEGURADORA, SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC, CARREFOUR BRASIL, L´ORÉAL, MICHELIN, DENGO and Fundação Amazonas Sustentável - FAS. In the morning of June 6, 2024, the partner Fernando Tabet was side by side with Corinne Fontenelle (FRANCE-BRAZIL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE - CCIFB) and Cyrille Bellier (REVER CONSULTING) in the copresidency of the event organized in the context of the Bioeconomy Commission of CCIFB, which was oriented to liders in the ESG field, to "Accelerate the engagement with the ESG journey and the opportunities associated to COP 30". The event counted on a presentation performed about the topic by Elisabeth Laville (UTOPIES).
In the morning of April 18, 2024, the partner Fernando Tabet has participated, as a moderator, in the panel "THE EUROPEAN DIRECTIVE ON SUSTAINABILITY REPORTS (CSRD): IMPORTANCE TO THE COMPANIES IN BRAZIL", jointly organized by the Bioeconomy and Legal Commissions of the France-Brazil Chamber of Commerce (CCIFB).
